Hope's History
Hope Fellowship Baptist Church is a Mission Church of Faith Baptist that was started on July 9, 2000 under the leadership of Pastor James Wesley Williams Jr. It is located inside the Bent Tree Apartment Complex. God blessed a weekly Bible Study to develop into a mission church at Bent Tree. Our first worship service was held inside of a two-bedroom apartment at Bent Tree. As we grew spiritually and physically, we began to have services inside the Club House. In April of 2002, we were blessed to move into a doublewide trailer that was provided by our sponsor church, Faith Baptist.
In the year 2002, our “Children in Action" Group began to sing each month at a Whitehaven Nursing Home on the first Saturday. Seven months later we were blessed to begin services at Belle Glade Nursing Home on the third Saturday along with accomplishing other mission projects. Hope Fellowship believes in training our youth and adults to give of oneself to missions as well as financially.
Since our beginning, we have baptized 100 persons. Our first services consisted of only a Sunday morning worship service and weekly Bible Study. A summer missionary social worker was available through the church to assist with counseling, educational and personal needs. In 2000, we added a missionary group for the children called “Children In Action”. In 2003, youth program was added for children 12 years and older. In 2004, Sunday School and Evening services began.
Hope Fellowship provided summer tutoring and lunches for the children in 2000 and continue to do so during the fall. Due to the large response of the tutorial program for the fall, the program has change to only homework assistance. These programs still continue until this day providing school supplies and snacks.
Classes for adults have been held to assist them with job improvement, higher education, and spiritual development. Beginning in 2004 a social worker is on site to assist the adults with GED, counseling, job placement, and personal needs. The social worker also develops community activities for the entire complex.
Being like our mother church in vision in starting new churches, in 2003 a new Bible study was started inside of Weaver Fields Apartments. Bro. Ray Meadows was hired as the church planter. He began Weaver Fields Family Ministries. Bro. Ray and his family worked hard to establish this ministry. In 2005 they moved to Schenectady, New York as pastor of the Hamilton Hill Fellowship. In 2005 Bro. Ikye Ugo, church planter, has replaced him in this ministry.
